I thought you might find this amusing/interesting. There’s a motorsport in Sweden (where I live), Finland, Norway and Denmark called “Folkrace” (which is the same in swedish and english) that is really cheap and simple for the drivers = pretty popular. It’s sort of like rallycross but with cheaper old cars. In fact, to race you must be willing to sell your car after the race for about $800.
Each race is typically made up of several qualification heats and then finals, all run in one day, and after the last final there is a sort of auction/lottery where you make a bid (buy a ticket) for any car you want (bidding fee $15 each and you can make as many bids as you want, even on your own car to increase your odds of keeping it). Then there is a lottery for each car where the winning bid gets it at the set price of $800.
If you’re lucky you keep your car, and if not you have to give it up for that price. This means nobody wants to spend a shitload of money on tuning the car so they are all pretty equal and you don’t have to spend lots of money to buy good brakes, tires etc. to be competitive.

The video shows you just the highlights (crashes) but there is actually some really good, fun, tight racing in most heats.

Many, if not most, scandinavian rally or rallycross drivers started out in folkrace when they were young.
As you see in the video Saab is really dominant, but it has become a bit more diverse in the past 10 years. I actually raced myself when I was 16-18 years old (10 years ago). Couldn’t really deal with all the fixing of shit that broke, so I quit, but I’m thinking of starting again soon.
