Message: It’s no longer a quandary!

Quick recap: Last summer I wrote to PatG to try and get some advice from Andrew about my different thoughts on buying a new car. I was fed up with my mostly good but horribly slow Volvo V50.

Last week I finally made a decision as I felt that I finally found a worthy car at the right price. Yesterday I went to pick it up. Well, what did I finally get?

First of all, Andrew had some good arguments for not getting AWD, which I was originally looking for. I had that in the back of my mind even if I kept looking at everything from midsize SUVs to normal wagons.

The best of both worlds would be the perfect vehicle if it wasn’t for the fact that compromises generally are bad at everything instead of good at everything (just look at “all season tires”).

I ended up getting one of the cars I mentioned I was tempted by way back in june (or even may?) last year. A BMW 320d Touring (wagon, RWD) from 2013 with just 36000 miles. It’s automatic, which I know Andrew isn’t a big fan of, but I’ve been driving manuals all my life, and want to try an auto for a while. Also, BMW are known for amazing automatic gearboxes.

I really enjoyed my 150 mile drive home from the dealer yesterday. I even made a stop at a large supermarket parking lot to do a bit of drifting in the snow. RWD is so much fun!
